Anthony Arnove is an author, editor, historian, and activist. He wrote the introduction for the 35th anniversary edition of Howard Zinn’s classic work, A People’s History of the United States.
Anthony produced the Academy Award–nominated documentary Dirty Wars and wrote, directed, and produced The People Speak with Howard Zinn. He is the editor of several books, including Voices of a People’s History of the United States, The Essential Chomsky, Howard Zinn Speaks, and Iraq Under Siege. He is the author of Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal, and Anthony’s latest book, edited with Haley Pessin, is Voices of a People’s History of the United States in the Twenty-First Century: Documents of Hope and Resistance.
He was named one of the Frederick Douglass 200, “a project to honor the impact of 200 living individuals who best embody the work and spirit of Douglass” today.
Anthony has directed and produced performances of Voices in partnership with Lincoln Center, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Sundance Film Festival, SummerStage, New York Public Library, and Americana Music Festival, among many other arts presenters. He spoke at the historic February 15, 2003, demonstration in New York City against the planned war in Iraq.
Anthony has a PhD and MA from Brown University, where he studied in the Modern Culture and Media Program, and a BA from Oberlin College studying English and Religion.
Based in New Jersey, he is the founder of Roam Agency, and in 2002, he helped launch the nonprofit publisher Haymarket Books.
