Liz Phair

“Life has taught me that you can't just wait for life itself to balance everything out. Bad times will follow good, and good times will follow bad, but I find it a major survival advantage to try to balance your own light and darkness.”

Down Arrow

"Liz Phair [has the] ability to make you look at something you’d rather not, but once you do, you’re glad you did—like any form of honest art. This is why Liz Phair still is, and always will be, a threat."— Ben Folds

With a career built on defying expectations, Liz Phair’s influence in alternative music continues to be heard today. She is a singer-songwriter, as well as the author of a highly praised memoir.

Liz burst onto the music scene in the early 1990s when she self-released audio cassettes under the name Girly Sound. She signed with Matador Records and, in 1993, released her debut album “Exile in Guyville” which has been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Throughout her career, Liz has sold nearly three million records worldwide and has had two Grammy nominations.

In 2019, Liz released Horror Stories, an unconventional rock memoir that doesn’t abide by any genre norms or rules. NPR calls it, “honest, original and absolutely remarkable…elegant but unpretentious” and says Liz is “as adept at writing prose as she is at writing songs. And anyone familiar with her music knows how great a thing that is.”

Liz is currently working on her second memoir, Fairy Tales, as well as her upcoming album, set to be released in the spring of 2020.

"My colleague, Trinity, and I cut our teeth loading Liz’s gear into a tour bus. Now, we get to help put her whip smart wit in front of the masses without all the gear. lol"
