“No one draws like Liana Finck, and no one enchants like her either.” —Stacy Schiff, author of Cleopatra
Liana Finck is a New Yorker cartoonist with almost 300 cartoons under her belt and over 500,000 Instagram followers; she maintains a monthly advice-column comic called “Dear Pepper,” a weekly drawing for the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin. Her work also frequently appears in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, and more.
Finck received her MFA from The Cooper Union and is the author of eight books, including A Bintel Brief (Ecco, 2014), a collection of short stories based on an early twentieth-century Yiddish advice column, her graphic memoirs Passing for Human (2018) and Excuse Me: Cartoons, Complaints, and Notes to Self (2019), and a graphic novel about the Genesis story featuring a female God, Let There Be Light: The Real Story of Her Creation (2022), all from Penguin Random House.
Her most recent book, Mixed Feelings, is a children’s book that illustrates how not all feelings can be summed up in a single word, or occur singularly.
Finck appears in Very Semi-Serious, an HBO documentary about New Yorker cartoonists, from her early meetings with Robert Mankoff through the triumph of her first sale. Her work has been supported by the New York Foundation for the Arts, MacDowell, Yaddo, Guggenheim Foundation, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Center.
