Alvin Hall is a television and radio broadcaster, a financial educator and best-selling author. He created, produced, and hosted the podcast series Driving the Green Book which received the 2021 Ambie Award for the Best History Podcast and the 2021 New York Festivals Gold Award for Best Narrative Documentary Podcast. He wrote a book based on the road trip, Driving the Green Book, that was published in February 2023.
For Audible, Alvin hosted the podcast series Power, Lust, and Glory: The Story of Gold. His radio programs include Diane Arbus: Intimate Portraits, The Tulsa Tragedy that Shamed America, Alvin Hall Goes Back to School, which won a New York Association of Black Journalists Award for Best General Feature, Who Sold the Soul?, winner of a Radio Academy Bronze Award for Best Music Feature or Documentary, and Jay-Z: From Brooklyn to the Boardroom, winner of a Wincott Award for Financial Journalism and Broadcasting.
Alvin hosted the landmark BBC television series Your Money or Your Life which won the Personal Finance Program of the Year Award. His bestselling books include Getting Started in Stocks and Your Money or Your Life, winner of WHSmith People’s Choice Award; nominated for an NAACP Image Award. His children’s book, Show Me the Money, has been published in more than 20 foreign language editions, most recently in Poland. His memoir of growing up in a largely Black community in the remote rural Florida Panhandle will be published in 2025.
Alvin also collects contemporary art. He currently serves as chair of the Black Arts Council at the Museum of Modern Art, as chair of the Advisory Council of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, and as an Acquisitions Committee member at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
